Acharya’s (Bala Swamiji’s) first Vijaya Yatra – Kanchi to Kurnool – June-July 1983

These pictures of His Holiness Pujyashri Shankara Vijayendra Saraswathi Shankaracharya Swamiji (Sri Bala Periyava) were taken on July 7, 1983 on HIS FIRST VIJAYA YATRA from Kanchipuram to Kurnool to have His first darshan of Paramaguru Pujyashri Chandrashekarendra Saraswathi Shankaracharya Swamigal AFTER Sanyasahrama Sweekaram and also to observe the first Chaturmasya with Guru Pujyashri Jayendra Saraswathi Shankaracharya Swamigal and Paramaguru Pujyashri Chandrashekarendra Saraswathi Shankaracharya Swamigal.

Two Month Journey:

A group of 15 devotees accompanied Sri Periva on His first Vijaya Yatra from Kanchipuram to Kurnool, which lasted nearly two months. Among the devotees were Shri. B.G. Paul Neelakanta Iyer, Shri. ICF Neelakanta Iyer, Shri. Narayana Rao, Shri. Vanchinatha Iyer, Shri. Subbaraman, Shri. SundaraMurthy Iyer, Bheemas Shri. Venkatachalam Iyer and Shri. Easun Ramakrishna Iyer. They proceeded through several villages – Uveri Chathiram, Senthamangalam, Saraswathi Mill, Arakonam, Thiruthani, Ponpadi and Nagari.

When the yatra neared Andhra, upon Maha Periyava’s instructions, an palanquin which He had used was brought in a lorry from Kumbakonam and the old Mena bearers (Sri Paadam) who were with Maha Periyava came from Omampuliyur and Kaatu Mannargudi. The journey then proceeded partially on foot and palanquin. Crossing many more villages and places like Renigunta, Mamandur, Orampadu, Rajampet, through Kadapah district, chagalamarri, Allagadda, Nandyal, Kalvabugga, Nannur, Thandrapadu, Sri Periyava arrived on Pradosham evening at Kurnool Camp where He was received in a traditional and grand manner.
